‘WBC boarding zero’ Hanwha, when looking at the future to face, not the failed past
It’s not that I didn’t have expectations. As much as he was highly praised by his manager, he hoped that the team’s present and future would gain valuable experience in the highest level of international competition. However, no one was able to make it to the final entry in the World Baseball (WBC), and following the 2019 Premier 12, they faced the regret of’zero boarding (0)’ once again. This is the story of Hanwha, where all the players watched the WBC on TV in March.
It was an opportunity to gain a lot. This is especially true for rookie players who grow day by day. A top-notch prospect like Moon Dong-ju (20) spends valuable time just wearing the Taegeuk mark. The same goes for infielder Roh Si-hwan (23), who was included in the preliminary entry along with Moon Dong-ju. As much as that, the national team experience takes a big part in the player’s career.
Breathing and living with the best players is itself a learning time. Even if you just ‘inspect’ the routines of your seniors, their training before the game, and their attitude to the game, it becomes an excellent study. Ryu Hyun-jin, Kim Gwang-hyun, and Kim Hyun-soo, Korean baseball icons of the 21st century, also grew up quickly by wearing the Taegeuk mark at a young age.
So, even inside the Hanwha club, I had expectations. Moon Dong-ju decided to determine the number of pitches and innings by distinguishing between those who are selected for the national team and those who are not. An official from the club said in December of last year, “Moon Dong-joo didn’t throw much in his first professional year. Still, I’ll look carefully and judge. He has to see whether he will be selected for the national team or not, and if he is selected, he will go and see how much he throws. We will make a comprehensive judgment and establish a plan for Moon Dong-ju’s season.”
But the best-case scenario fell through. Second baseman Jeong Eun-won and starting catcher Choi Jae-hun were also mentioned during the technical committee meeting, but Jung Eun-won was pushed aside by active major leaguer Tommy Edman (St. Louis) and Choi Jae-hoon by Lee Ji-young (Kiwoom). The technical committee focused on building the best team as it was a competition that had to produce results. 메이저놀이터
It is regrettable, but the WBC is not the only international competition. The Hangzhou Asian Games (AG) will be held in September during the season, and the Asian Professional Baseball Championship (APBC) will be held after the season. Both competitions have an age limit, but Moon Dong-ju, Roh Si-hwan, and Jeong Eun-won, all of whom have suffered high defeats this time, are eligible to participate. If he solves the regret of not being able to board the WBC with a big success in the regular season, he can re-challenge for the Taegeuk mark.
The same is true for the club. More than any other team, Hanwha desperately needs new players to grow. As young blood grows, you can approach the end of the dark age. It’s time to put the failures behind and focus on the future this year. In particular, Moon Dong-ju maintains his rookie title this year as well. If a Hanwha rookie king is born 17 years after Ryu Hyun-jin in 2006, this is also of great significance.
