NL stealing 1st place Akuna Junior, hit by a ball and replaced… Bae Ji-hwan, chasing the leader?
Major League Baseball (ML) Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. was hit in the shoulder and was substituted out. Acuna Junior is a player competing with Bae Ji-hwan for stealing in the National League.
Acuna Junior started as right fielder in the second leg of the double header against the 2023 MLB New York Mets held at Citi Field in New York, USA on the 2nd (Korean time), but left as the game started.
In the top of the first inning, Akuna Jr., who started as the lead batter, was hit in the left shoulder by the third fastball thrown by Mets starter Tyler Megill. Acuna Junior complained of pain and was replaced by lead runner Kevin Pilar. “Acuna Junior was replaced with a left shoulder bruise,” the Atlanta club explained.
Acuna Jr. has stolen 13 bases this season, leading the division. Bae Ji-hwan tied for second place with 11 (11). Therefore, if Bae Ji-hwan increases the number of stolen bases, he will be able to rise to the top. Acuna Junior was the top stealer (37) in the National League in 2019.
