Mount’s popularity continues to grow, even in the worst of seasons…Liverpool-Arsenal join Man Utd in the race to sign him
The race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is heating up.
On July 25, global sports publication The Athletic reported that Mount was being linked with a move to United.
Born in 1999, midfielder Mount came up through the Chelsea youth ranks. He spent time on loan at Chelsea’s partner club, Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord, and English Championship (Second Division) side Derby County, before breaking into the first team under his former manager at Derby, Frank Lampard.
He quickly established himself as a regular starter for the Blues. In three seasons, starting in 2019-2020, he scored 24 goals and provided 20 assists in 105 league games, including a “10-10” record in 32 English Premier League (EPL) games last season. In the 2020-2021 season, he made 11 appearances in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), helping Chelsea reach the top of Europe under Thomas Tuchel. He has also represented his country since September 2019. He has made 36 appearances for his country at the Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cups.
However, this season, his personal performances plummeted along with Chelsea’s fall from grace. In 24 league appearances, he managed just three goals and two assists. With Lampard returning as interim manager, hopes were high for a bounce-back season for Mount, but he barely played in the second half of the season due to injury.
His struggles this season have left his future in doubt. Mount signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea in the summer of 2019. At the time, he was still an unproven prospect and was not paid as much as his teammates. His weekly wages were reportedly in the region of £75,000 (approximately $120 million). His contract runs until next summer, so this season’s renewal talks have been ongoing, with the Mount demanding a significant pay rise and Chelsea concerned about his poor form this season 메이저놀이터.
Incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly included Mount in his plans for the upcoming season, but the midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club. Liverpool, who are planning to reshape their midfield in the summer transfer window, and Arsenal, who are set to lose Granit Xhaka, are interested, while Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich, who coached Mount during his time at Chelsea, are also monitoring his situation. Man United have also joined the chase.
Mount is interested in joining United, assuming he leaves Chelsea. ‘The Athletic’ reports that “Mount is leaning towards United. Chelsea and United are expected to hold talks soon. Other clubs interested in Mount are also aware of his preference.”
