MLB’s San Diego, facing ‘catching shortage,’ signs veteran Sanchez

The San Diego Padres, an offense plagued by cold bats from its catchers, have acquired veteran reliever Gary Sanchez, according to MLB.com and other U.S. media outlets.

San Diego acquired Sanchez, who was claimed off waivers from the New York Mets last week, for a relatively modest $1.1 million 먹튀검증.

Sanchez, who has 154 home runs and 402 RBIs in his nine-year big league career, made a name for himself as an offensive catcher, hitting 138 home runs in seven years with the New York Yankees from 2015-2021.

But after being traded to the Minnesota Twins last year, he’s been a free agent ever since.

After being released by Minnesota after the season, he signed minor league deals with both the San Francisco Giants and Mets this year in hopes of resurrecting his career in the big leagues, but it hasn’t worked out and he’s moved teams for the third time this year.

San Diego spent an astronomical amount of money to build a formidable offense, but it’s not looking good right now, with the team tied for last place in the National League West with the Colorado Rockies.

Catching is a particular problem.

Austin Nola, who broke his nose in an exhibition game, is batting just .131, and rookie Brett Sullivan is batting .170.

Luis Camposano, who has fared better at .238, was lost earlier this month after injuring his right thumb.

San Diego has been grasping at straws to bolster its offense, signing experienced catcher Kevin Plawecki to a minor league deal nine days ago.

Sanchez has appeared in three big league games for the Mets, going 1-for-6.
