Former Manchester City and Spain international David Silva is retiring from international soccer.
David Silva announced his retirement on social media today. “Today is a sad day for me. It’s time to say goodbye to something I’ve dedicated my life to. It’s time to say goodbye to my colleagues, who are like family. I will miss them a lot.”
A former Valencia youth product, David Silva made his Primera Liga debut for Celta Vigo in the 2005-06 season. He went on to play four seasons with Valencia before joining City in 2010-11, where he spent the next 10 seasons 꽁머니지급.
David Silva was one of the key players in City’s Premier League title win in his first season with the club. David Silva helped City win their first Premier League title in 44 years.
David Silva went on to score 77 goals in 436 appearances for City.David Silva won four Premier League titles with City, along with two FA Cups, five League Cups, and numerous other trophies. Since his departure from the club, City have recognized David Silva as a club legend with a statue of him being unveiled at their home stadium, the Etihad Stadium, in 2021.
David Silva, who retired from the Spanish national team in 2018, was at the peak of his career with the Spanish national team, winning the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, as well as Euro 2008 and Euro 2012. David Silva scored 35 goals in 125 caps for Spain, including a goal in a 2016 friendly against South Korea.
After leaving City, David Silva spent three seasons at Real Sociedad, starting in 2020-21, where he played a key role in the 2019-20 Copa del Rey title. David Silva suffered a serious knee injury last season and eventually decided to retire.
Upon hearing the news of his retirement, Man City thanked David Silva for his career, saying: “David Silva has had an incredible career. The Spanish national team posted on social media: “Thank you David Silva for the football he played for us. The magic of David Silva will live on forever.
