Kim Ji-chan marks comeback with multi-hit performance…”The game went as well as I thought it would”
Samsung Lions’ Kim Ji-chan shared his thoughts on his comeback game.
Kim started at second base in the ninth spot in the lineup against the Hanwha Eagles at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on March 3. He went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. With Kim batting in the bottom of the order, Samsung defeated Hanwha 7-2.
Kim’s bat danced throughout the game. In his second at-bat of the fifth inning, Kim registered a comeback hit. With two outs, he lined a single to right off Felix Peña. In the eighth inning, he completed his multi-hit game with a single to right off Jung Woo-ram, and in the ninth inning, he reached base on a passed ball.
Returning from a hamstring injury, Kim made his presence felt from the first game. He was still fast, covering ground all over the field, and his hitting was so fluid that it didn’t feel like he was missing a beat. After the game, Kim said, “It always feels good to win. I went down to the second team for a while and came back up, but I’m even happier to win,” he smiled.
As expected, the game went well. “I tried to do the same thing with my batting,” Kim said, “and it worked out well because I did what I thought. It’s been a long time since I’ve played, so I tried to be aggressive, and my batting went well.”
Despite his nagging hamstring injury, it wasn’t a big deal this time. “I actually didn’t think it would be too bad this time. I thought it would be fine after a day or two of rest. I didn’t go to the second team because I was in a lot of pain, so I trained right after the pain subsided,” he said, expressing confidence in his physical condition.
He vowed to continue to work on injury prevention. “I work hard to prevent injuries, but my body doesn’t listen to me. I try to pay attention to the training part, and I work hard in my own way. Still, I feel like I can’t help it. When I’m sick, I try to rest, and when I’m well, I try to work hard to maintain my physical condition.”
