‘Apology or media play?” Tebas Lariga says: “My remarks to Vinicius, I didn’t mean them, but I apologize”
La Liga president Javier Tebas has apologized to Vinicius Junior.
“La Liga president Javier Tebas has apologized to Vinicius for a post he made after he was racially abused,” global media outlet ESPN reported on Friday.
Recently, Vinicius was racially abused. The incident occurred on March 22. Real Madrid was traveling to play Valencia when fans chanted “You monkey!” and other slogans at Vinicius. “Vinicius burst into tears when he heard the words ‘Vinicius die,'” according to Spain’s DirectoGol.
Eventually, Vinicius exploded. In a scuffle with Hugo Duro in the final minute of the second half, he was punched in the face, and the referee awarded him a direct red card after a video assistant referee (VAR) check. Vinicius was not happy with the decision, and the Valencia fans became even more furious and continued to hurl racial slurs at him.
After the game, Vinicius took to social media to say, “Racism is normal in La Liga. The competitors think it’s normal, the federation does it. The opponents encourage it. I’m really sorry for that. The league that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi today belongs to racists. But I am strong and I will go to the end against racists, even if it is a long journey,” he said in an official statement.
In response to Vinicius’ comments, Tebas retweeted them and made his own comments. “In the case of racism, we tried to explain it to you directly, but you didn’t show up on the two dates we requested. You need to be properly informed before criticizing and insulting La Liga. Don’t manipulate yourself and make sure you fully understand each other’s capabilities and the work we have done together,” he wrote.
It was a shocking statement. It was a shocking statement because the world knew that the president of La Liga had this mindset when it came to racism in the league. The fallout was huge, and Tebas eventually apologized. He told ESPN: “Brazil did not understand my message and my intentions. It was not my intention to attack Vinicius,” he said. 먹튀검증
“If that’s how most people understood it, I have to apologize. It was not my intention. It was necessary to clarify the situation because Vinicius had recorded a video in support of Lariga’s actions.”
However, there was no direct apology to Vinicius. It seemed like a media play to calm down fans who were upset by his comments. Tebas also failed to offer any concrete solutions to the racism issue. A concrete solution and a sincere apology to Vinicius would be the best way forward at this point, but Tebas doesn’t seem to know.
